LinkedIn’s CEO, Ryan Roslansky, recently posted about 4 outcomes of the economic uncertainty. He came to these outcomes after meeting business CEOs and leaders across the board.

There is a Before Pandemic and After Pandemic.

  • Hybrid work is now an option along with the previously preferred on-site only.

  • Remote work has received a big boost. Areas such as marketing and IT have more visible remote roles than before.

Emergence of Productivity Paranoia.

  • 80% employees believe they are productive at work, irrespective of their location

  • 80% employers believe that location has a direct impact on productivity.

Uncertainty is an Opportunity

  • Uncertainty is the lack of information to enable the right decision.

  • When there is uncertainty, there is an opportunity to improvise, build and pivot.

Skillset above Education

  • The skill sets for jobs is changing every few years (less than 10).

  • Individuals and companies that invest in continuous learning will see greater success.

My experience as a remote freelance content writer

I have been building up my freelance content writing business this year. I work for clients on a remote basis, from my home office. None of my clients (as of publishing this post) are in the same country as me. In fact, there is a time difference of 11.5 hours between me and one of my clients.

To me, the great advantage has been that there is an acceptance towards remote working.

But, remote working comes with being accountable.

  • There is an emphasis on direct, transparent communication.

  • We do not meet in-person and are not even within the same geographical boundaries.

  • So, earning the client's trust is a must. It will go a long way to building relationships and attracting business opportunities.

Here are a few other benefits of remote working that I experienced:

1. An independent, stress-free work environment.

  • I can decide my working hours, and schedule calls only if required.

  • I have the flexibility to scale up or scale down on my projects during a given period of time.

  • No office politics.

    2. Guilt-free family time

  • Less to no stress about the leave policy.

  • I can work nights or early mornings as long as I am meeting my deadlines.

  • I do not have the obligation to attend meetings after my business hours.

    3. More time to invest in self

  • I have been reading two different books in order to learn more about the Metaverse and about Behavioral Science. While Metaverse is a completely new field for me (and many others), I studied Behavioral Science at a Master’s level.

  • Taking up expertise-based certifications to keep my toolkit sharp.

    4. Financial and Health Gains

  • No investment is needed for an office wardrobe.

  • No commute so savings on fuel and time.

  • Channelling freed up time for physical exercise and mental relaxation.

The Learning

The era of ‘an accountable worker can work from anywhere with the right support, trust and wifi. [Reasonable to mention that this excludes certain occupations that are on-site only. Eg: a construction worker, a surgeon or a policeman]
